Educators Cathy Mere & Mandy Robek have been running the #pb10for10 event for several years now. What’s #pb10for10? Well, you pick 10 picture books you simply can’t live without and share today, August 10th, with the hashtag #pb10for10 (see the official rules here). Share your own and check out all the others in the #pb10for10 Google Community.
I participated last year for the first time and had a blast. My theme was Rhyming Picture Books (you don’t need a theme, but sometimes it helps narrow down your choices when there are SOOO many great picture books out there).
This year, I’m sharing my favorite, Pirate, Dinosaur, and Dragon Picture Books (you can probably guess why – if not, see the sidebar —>)
1. The Pirates Next Door by Jonny Duddle
2. Rex Wrecks It by Ben Clanton
3. Take Care, Good Knight by Shelley Moore Thomas & Paul Meisel
4. The Night Pirates by Peter Harris & Deborah Allwright
5. Edwina: The Dinosaur Who Didn’t Know She Was Extinct by Mo Willems
6. When a Dragon Moves In by Jodi Moore & Howard McWilliam
7. Pirate Princess by Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen & Jill McElmurry
8. Hiding Dinosaurs by Dan Moynihan
9. Have You Seen My Dragon? by Steve Light
10. Kid Sheriff and the Terrible Toads by Bob Shea & Lane Smith
(#10 isn’t strictly about dinosaurs, but it allows me to have three books each for pirates, dinosaurs, and dragons – and then this one – you’ll see when you read it)
Don’t forget to check out everyone else’s favorite picture books, comment, and share in the #pb10for10 Google Community!

My favorite, besides the two obvious of course, is The Pirates Next Door. He just started a transitional chapter book series I’m excited to read continuing the adventure!

There are many of these books that I don’t know. PIrates, dinosaurs, and dragons all appeal to students so I have a feeling they’d love all of these. Thanks for sharing!

Lots of fun! One of my favourite dinosaur books is an older one The Dragon Pack Snack by Joel E Tanis (1993) Attack Do you know it? It’s awesome! Think you would love it.

Some of these are favorites, nothing better than pirates and dinosaurs, but I didn’t know about your new “Dear Dragon”. It sounds wonderful, will be sure to get it when it arrives. Happy times for you this next month!

I adore Edwina. She might be my favorite dinosaur because she is so kind to Reginald VonHoobieDoobie. I love to use that book when talking about how to deal with the Reginalds of the world. And now I’m confessing, I haven’t read any of these other books, so thanks. There is a local library and indie book store right around the corner…I need to get busy.

A wonderful theme and wonderful list! Kid Sheriff is a new title for me and looks like a great one to read to my class! Thank you! I would add The Egg – by M.P. Robertson as it’s my favorite dragon book and a Canadian author – do you know this book?

I don’t! But I’m requesting it right now! Thank you for the suggestion! (and yay for Canada!)

Have You Seen My Dragon? Is a fun book! I’ve added all the others, including two more from the other comments to my To Read list. Another pirate book you might enjoy is How I Became a Pirate by Melinda Long and David Shannon. Great list! My students and I will have lots of fun working our way through it! 😊❤️📚

Such a great list, Josh! Of course I love yours but there were a bunch I haven’t read and added to my “TBR” pile. Thanks!

Love this list — wish we had it when our kids were young. Clare’s son Jack LOVED dinosaurs. We will share this list with teachers.
